"Thank Y'all For Saving My Life," A$AP Rocky Trial Comes to a Close

Three-time Grammy nominee and actor A$AP Rocky has been acquitted of all charges in a dramatic courtroom showdown, bringing an end to a nearly month-long trial that captivated the music world.

The rapper, whose real name is Rakin Mayers, allegedly opened fire in Hollywood during a heated discussion with former friend and fellow Hip-Hop artist Terell Ephron, also known as A$AP Relli. If convicted, Mayers could face up to 24 years in prison for two felony counts of assault with a semi-automatic weapon. 

The artist denied the allegations, pleading not guilty and rejecting a pre-trial plea deal. Instead, Mayers opted for a jury trial, which spanned over three weeks. During November of 2023, new surveillance videos were released that showed two loud pops which prosecuters suggested to be gunshots. 

Rocky’s legal team was quick to counter, claiming that the gun was an unuseable prop weapon that only fired blanks to ward off possible attackers. Ephron, however, claimed to have been struck from the bullet fragments, allegedly grazing his hand.

Authorities never recovered the supposed gun from the crime scene, and the defense maintained that the supposed prop could not fire live rounds.

The trial lasted over a span of 3 weeks, with a panel of 12 jurors. In addition, his longtime partner Rihanna, known for her popular brand Fenty Beauty and hit-album Anti, attended the trial with the pair’s two sons. 

On February 18, the Los Angeles jury found Mayer not guilty and acquitted him from all criminal charges where Mayers was visibly emotional. As the final verdict was read, the rapper rushed to embrace his family.

“Thank Y’all for saving my life,” he told the jurors.

This ruling marks a major turning point for Fashion Killa rapper A$AP Rocky, and fans are eager to see what’s next to come.
