How Students Handle School-Life Balance
Living in today's society can be quite a handful. From the need to meet many expectations to balancing school and life, it is nearly impossible to juggle everything around.
From the Boomers to Generation Alpha, many of them will face key differences when it comes to education. Differences such as doing the bare minimum to going out of this world by completing various extracurriculars, it is unclear how students of the modern world will live a balanced life.
Generation Z, the generation of technology, are met with many expectations. From having the need to accomplish many extracurriculars while balancing academics, it is clear how generation Z can be the least capable of balancing school and academics.
“Last school year, I was the most busy. I had to run a yearbook class, carry out Student Council president duties, maintain my grades, and balance my personal goals and family events. Thankfully, by the end, I was able to push through.” Rhaine Dahill, a student currently attending the Southwest Career & Technical Academy stated.
With an uprising of generation Z becoming less balanced, some still find ways to balance the school-life scale to prevent any future causes that can pose difficulty later on in life.
“I properly balance school and life primarily through self-discipline. I’ve learned to mentally and physically take note of my tasks on a range from “to-do-today” to “to-do-tomorrow.” Having a system, understanding how long things take, and knowing what’s priority is important for balance. If you don’t clearly define for yourself what needs to happen, it’s extremely easy for the “school-life” scale to be tipped.” Dahill further stated.
What increased the difficulty of balancing life and school was a significant increase in academic workload. This increase plays a huge role in how students of the generation juggles school and life as they have never dealt with this much.
“Too much homework when all of my teachers assign summatives at the same time.” Katelyn Hee, a student also currently attending the Southwest Career & Technical Academy stated.
Despite the increase of difficulty and many hardships trying to get tasks accomplished, some are willing to change their life for the better in order to balance both life and school a whole lot easier.
“Waking up early for school. I’m not a morning person.” Angel Samson said.
Putting all the hardships aside, Generation Z students find hope in themselves to hopefully maintain the school-life balance as the current state of mind and place is not ideal for some.
“I think I'll be able to balance it in the future. Right now I'm not in the best spot but I'm working on it and balancing school and life is a part of getting better. “ Robert Cerritos, another student currently attending the Southwest Career & Technical Academy.
It is without a doubt Generation Z poses the most difficult conflict when it comes to education and extracurriculars as it is their very first time dealing with both. With a steady balance, the generation will be able to be prepared not only for the present but for the future.
